Harbor Village Gives Back To Organizations

I just wanted to report that Harbor Village and the Christmas tree lot at Harbor Village that donated 10% of sales back to local organizations of peoples choices raised over 1,100 dollars for charities and schools on the coast. Harbor village had a decorating contest that gave 500 dollars back to local schools and the winner.

Coastside Hope and cougar booster were among the most popular recipients of the tree lot. They received an additional 150 and 100$. When checks are written we will update you on all charities and organizations who received money. Special Thanks to the shops at Harbor Village along with Oceano Hotel and Spa. Hopefully next year we could raise more money for the coast!

Ice Skating Rink Comes to Harbor Village

The artificial ice rink is made from a Synthetic material which makes for the perfect hybrid-ice® skating surface, bringing together the fun of skating with the affordability of an energy-safe product. Without the need for expensive refrigeration units, generators, or electricity, and made from a recyclable, polymer compound, our rinks are the eco-friendly, low cost alternative to real ice.A non-toxic, glide enhancer liquid is sprayed on to the surface to reduce the friction created by the blade. Heat created by the blade moving across the ice helps to release the glide enhancer to further simulate gliding action. The amount of glide enhancer used, the cleanliness of the rink surface and the sharpness of the blade, combine to create the optimum skating experience. The rinks feels 10-15% slower than skating on typical refrigerated ice, and feels much like skating on a frozen pond.

Ice Skating rink will be located outside in the quad area at Harbor Village on Sat.

Christmas Tree

Imagine of a Christmas but without having a Christmas tree. Well can you really imagine? Certainly not. The aroma and flavor of Christmas tree has become a central part of the Christmas festival. The enjoyment of celebration starts with the selection of the Christmas tree and then buying it to home. The pleasure continues with the decoration of the tree, especially when you find your kid is showing his full enthusiasm just to search for an appropriate place to tag the star on the tree branches. Christmas gifts are placed beneath the tree. All family members and friends get together around the Christmas tree for celebrating the occasion.

Symbol of Christmas

Christmas tree has symbolic significance in people from North America, Germany and other parts of Europe. It represents the celebration of Christmas season. They are green all year round and they look very lively and fresh, even when all others trees become dull and leafless. So symbolically they stand for everlasting life. Although, there are older records that claim for the usage of hemlocks as Christmas tree, but truly the accurate identification is nearly impossible. In modern days, approximately 50 different sorts of conifers are sold to the shoppers. Common varieties may include pines, spruces as well as other firs. For them, it is a time for true celebration and enjoyment.

Christmas Tree

One of the most awaited Christmas decor items, especially by kids, is undoubtedly the magical looking Christmas tree. It is said that Christmas tree was included in the celebrations ever since humans observed these evergreen trees glistening in the moonlit sky on a clear night sparkling against the backdrop of white snow. One of the most import Christmas symbols for centuries, Christmas trees were used in many pagan festivals to honor their gods and spirits. Vikings in North Europe considered these evergreen trees a reminder of the Spring that is about to approach and that the Winter will end soon. In ancient England and France, Druids used to honor God of harvests by decorating oak trees with fruit and candles, just as Romans adorned trees with trinkets and candles on Saturnalia.
Christmas Tree
It is said that the German Christians were the first to bring the trees into their homes to decorate or use a Christmas pyramid made of wood in areas where there was a scarcity of trees. Soon, whole Europe caught up with the trend and the English Royalty popularized it among the elite. Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, decorated the first Christmas tree. They had then used candles, candies, fruits, and gingerbread. Christmas tree came to America with the German immigrants and was accepted by the general public only in the late 1800s. At the time of the first public display of a Christmas tree by German settlers in Pennsylvania, it was considered a symbol of pagans. Till then, apples, nuts, cookies, candies, colored popcorn and candles were the popular Christmas tree ornaments.

In the early 20th century, electricity brought a revolution in Christmas tree decoration. Electrical Christmas lights grew more and more popular every year and now most communities throughout the US feature public displays of Christmas trees. The President of the United States now lights the National Christmas Tree every year in Washington as an indication of the beginning of Christmas celebrations. The huge lighted tree at Rockfeller Center in New York is quite a spectacle and skaters spinning beneath it look like angels. Christmas Tree has now gained popularity all over the world and choosing the right Christmas tree and its ornaments, placing gifts beneath it and opening them at midnight is all now part and parcel of Christmas fun and revelry.
